I have been pondering and developing this idea for as long as I have been weaving actually.  When I was homesick in Melbourne in 2013 and a new weaver, I visualised a range of scarves and wraps/shawls that were inspired by the colours of the New Zealand birds that I missed.  The time is definitely right now, however, and I am delighted with the results of my KokakoTui and Pukeko wraps and Kiwi and Kereru scarves.  Here is their story:All Posts

In your hands you are holding a piece of New Zealand.  The wool, alpaca, possum down, cashmere and mohair fleeces were gathered by New Zealand shearers from animals grazing on New Zealand pastures.  They were spun and dyed with New Zealand hands.  They were then handwoven by a sixth generation New Zealander following designs inspired by our New Zealand birds – Tui, Kiwi, Kereru (wood pigeon), Pukeko and Kokako.

I am getting brilliant feedback on these items, for corporate and executive gifts to limited edition items for high-end gift shops.  Each item is made to order and totally unique – I am incredibly lucky to have talented New Zealand farmers, processors, spinners and dyers that produce the beautiful yarns that I use in each of these bespoke items.  Each colourway is available in a long scarf, infinity scarf and wrap and are made from New Zealand yarns that honour the inspiration I find in New Zealand nature.  Each is unique and made to order, creating a very special, wearable momento of New Zealand.  These are stunning gifts for special occasions or special guests.

Take a look at the Kiwi, Kereru, KokakoTui and Pukeko.
